4 natural, low-waste Australian sunscreens to try.

It’s getting easier to find natural, reef-safe sunscreens that are plastic free - here are four of my picks from Australian-made brands.

sunbutter

Sunbutter was the first plastic-free natural sunscreen brand I found and tried, and I still use it today.

Natural sunscreens are zinc-based or mineral sunscreens, meaning they protect the skin with a physical barrier, rather than chemicals that sink into the skin and work below the surface.

Sunbutter is creamy and easy to rub in - no mean feat for zinc sunscreens!

Sunslayer

New kid on the block, Sunslayer is based in Western Australia and have released their mineral sunscreen in a completely recyclable aluminium tube - both tube and cap are recyclable, and you can also get a ‘tube key’ that helps you roll the tube to get the last remnants out.

They use coconut oil in their formula, making it smooth to rub in particularly on the face and neck.

You probably know these guys for their cute beach umbrellas and accessories - which as a side note are made using recycled materials and they offer replacement parts too.

They’ve released a natural, reef-safe sunscreen in an aluminium tube, so this will be the one I try next.

outside skin

This is a bit of a wild card but I wanted to include this new Aussie brand that combines beauty products with SPF. I’m all about multi-purpose products, and the more SPF we use the better, right?!

They offer a combined lip and cheek tint with SPF, giving us a cute way to protect skin as soft and sensitive as our lips.
